Radio Recall no.21 - Big Al Stewart

Al was a pre-FM volunteer (a friend of Mr. Pete since their early teens) who was brought on board to help facilitate the pre-FM musical line-up of shows. He left CIUT a year after the FM launch in 1987 but has kept his eye on the station ever since. He finds it satisfying to see that the station has since thrived, surviving many potholes along the way. Hear him speak with Steve Fruitman and Peter Stamp about what the station was like back then. 
 
Radio Recall is about the legacy being left by our volunteers.

One of the most outspoken, audacious, brash and intelligent young volunteers who came to the station in his mid-teens and won himself a radio show when the station first went FM. Hear how he did it in less than ten breaths. Peter and I could barely get a word it. And it's rather hilarious! Check it out.  

Radio recall 17 with Beverly Taft - the Voice of CIUT

Everyone who listens to CIUT knows that voice! Gotto. She's Beverly Taft who's been doing our promos for 15 to 20 years now. She was also involved with other programs and is still active in CIUT Radio. 

Radio recall 16 - Guest Sheila Nopper

Sheila was a programmer at CIUT in the late 1980s. She co-hosted Reggae Rhyddems with Patrick Roots before making three very splendid radio docs. She now lives in BC. 

Radio Recall No. 15 - A Talk with Mr. Pete

Of all the names mentioned on Radio Recall, the one that comes up the most with affection is that of Peter Snell, aka Mr. Pete.
 
Peter Snell came to CIUT when it was CJUT closed circuit radio club U ot T Radio in 1983. He stayed for the next 5 years. During that time he designed the 2 types of music programs we have always had: 1 hour exploration shows and mosaic music programs. Since then we've built upon this concepts. 
He worked as a club DJ for 30 years before getting back to basics by hosting Funky Fridays at CIUT. In interesting and humorous interview with Peter Stamp and myself, Steve Fruitman.

This episode explores the inner world (a bit) of Phil Taylor, host of CIUT's Taylor Report heard weekly Mondays at 5 pm. This week, Ken Stowar and I discuss Phil's love of radio, his commitment to excellence and how he puts nuts and bolts together. We even learned something about The Birdman of Alkatraz!

Dave O Rama guests on RR

Dave O Rama, began his association with CIUT an hour before the station went on air at 89.5 FM in Toronto on Jan 15, 1987.
 
He's done a variety of tasks as a CIUT volunteer, from Production to fill ins, a stint on the board, designer of the best T-Shirt we ever had and music show host. Even living on Lovecast Island near Nanaimo can't keep him away.
