Fred worked at CIUT from 2000 to 2007. His duties were to record bands in Studio 3 in the basement of 91 St George (our old digs). I asked a lot of questions, taxed his mind and came up with a really good interview.
Included on this program were a couple of songs Fred recorded in Studio 3. They are Bucket of Time (E Parry) by Corin Raymond with Darcy Yates (bass) and Marc Roy (lead guitar). The other one was Iansanity band covering Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine

Lynn Slotkin was the theatre critic for the CBC for over ten years until the corporation brilliantly decided to shed itself of critics by getting rid of their music, art and theatre critics (they did retain their movie critics). Because of this, she migrated over to CIUT. So how does one become such a critic, who are their role models, what's the Toronto scene like and what is its history? We find out all the answers and more this week on Radio Recall. So let's drop in and hear what Lynn had to say to Peter Stamp and I.

Rob Sanzo arrived at CIUT in 1989 when he walked into the basement of our old location at 91 St. George. What he found behind the spider webs in the darkness of the bowels of the house was the perfect recording studio. A few months later, it was up and working as Studio 3. He stayed for a few years, moonlighting at night, recording bands as part of the deal. It led him into starting his own recording studio, called Signal 2 Noise where he recorded hundreds of bands. He has great memories of his time at CIUT. It was great catching up with him after more than 30 years.

Howl is one of the most interesting programs offered at CIUT-FM. It was started by Nick Beat in the 1990s and has continued, after his death ten years ago, hosted by Valentino Assenza. We interviewed him from his home in Grimsby, ON the old fashioned telephone way.

Jenny Blackbird is host of CIUT program Indigenous Waves head Mondays at 7 pm. She's been producing weekly episodes since 2015 but her experiences at CIUT began long before that. Her mother used to volunteer for the By All Means women's collective that produced daily shows in the 1990s. It was an enlightening episode, lots of fun to listen to.

We are known for going back in time to discover the rich history of CIUT but this time we had the unique opportunity to speak with Hume Baugh, a brand new programmer (Mondays 2 pm) who is just starting out. It made for a pretty cool angle to discover. Also features the Nazz in various Nazz Nazz ways and ends in a train wreck - in a good way.

The beginning of our 3rd Season! To start things off, we welcome 24 year programmer / host Cheri DiNovo. Cheri hosts The Radical Reverend heard Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Peter and I had a wonderful chat with her about being the Radical Reverend (performed the first same sex marriage in Canada) as well as her 12 years as an elected official in the Ontario Legislature as NDP MPP for Parkdale. And then there was her Three Women show during the Radical Reverend haitus (while she was an MPP). And to top it all off, there's the Santiago de Camino trail she did with her son. A wonderful expose of a celebrated servant of the people.

For some reason, this year old interview was never put up for the podcast. That has been corrected now.

Ken Stowar began his decades long association with CIUT in 1988 but we have already spoken with him (RR26) about his work as a volunteer programmer. This time we concentrated on his job as Program Director (since 2002) and taking on the Station Manager's role in 2010. We spoke about the ups and downs, the sacrifices, the wiping out of our debt and being struck with (2026) a dead transmitter two days before a funding drive and Covid. It's a fascinating tale of dedication, love and thinking outside of the box.

I know, it's weird being interviewed on your own program, but co-host Peter Stamp was insisting that we do this. And it worked! It worked really well - i was totally surprised at how good the show turned out.
So we follow my career from the late 1950s to the present, including my stint at CHOO radio in Ajax in the 1970s.
